"the ministry of science, ict and future planningsays it will work toward finding a cure for the zika virus.it plans to invest more than 2-point-4-million u.s. dollars to hire three teams of researchersover the next three years." researchers will be tasked on developing core-technologiesthat can help define the virus' pathogen, as well as a diagnosis kit.they will also aim at predicting the possibilities
of a mutation of the virus if it enters thecountry. the ministry also hopes to collaborate withinternational networks such as the global research collaboration for infectious diseasepreparedness... in order to secure the specimen of the virus directly from infected areas. the plan is part of the government's comprehensiveprecautionary measures against a possible spread of the zika virus in korea... thoughthere have been no confirmed cases of the virus in the country so far.health authorities say they will conduct a nationwide mosquito-control drive for tenmonths starting april this year... and strengthen its monitoring on airplanes, ships and passengersthat depart from infected regions.
the zika virus, which can be transmitted throughmosquito bites, is suspected of causing microcephaly among babies.the incubation period for the virus is known to last two weeks... but the survival periodor the virus' pathogen is currently not yet clearly defined.the world health organization said the zika virus has spread across at least 30 countries,and it has been linked to thousands of birth defects in latin america.kim ji-yeon, arirang news.
